This Community Crochet Project is organised by Karen Scarlett for the Innisfail Public Library and consists of creating special small items that will be put together to create chair/seating covers for the newly re-imagined Reading Cave space.
Community Crochet – October 2025
This fall, join in a Community Crochet Public Art Project! – Everyone is welcome to participate.
The community is invited to stitch, crochet, knit and knot small decorative pieces that can be made into larger covers for the furniture within the Libraries Reading Room, affectionately refered to as “the Cave” space. Items like; flowers, leaves, pokemon, skulls, dinosaurs, granny squares, patches and anything your mind can think of will be accepted for this project.
This reading space will be a highly stylized room where imagination ignites and everyone is invited to go on a journey. The space will be filled with wonders and draw the community to enjoy the magic of what reading helps your brain experience.
Who: anyone interested in stitching to create special crochet covers for the Library.Â
Where: yarn and printed patterns can be accessed at the library, various patterns will be made available. (Links for printable patterns are below.)
Why: The community is invited to help with the production of these pieces in order to feel more engaged with the space and to feel as though they have some ownership in the creation and special feeling towards this “new to us” reading room. Creating something together is a fun way to share pride in the places we use and enjoy.
When: Yarn will be available after October 15, 2025
How: All finished pieces will be needed back in the Library by November 30, 2025. Community workshops will be held to finish the final pieces during December.
The final finished covers are inspired by the images below, with luck we will have enough pieces created for the room that we can stitch together some pillow covers too.

If you would like to crochet or knit at the Library you will be welcomed to curl up in one of the cozy chairs in the library. Ask for some yarn at the front desk.
