THE 100 FRIENDS MURAL
July 22 Update:
We launched this mural project just over a month ago and are thrilled that we have almost made our fundraising target.
I will be adjusting this page as we go and eventually it will host our sponsors names and tell stories about our community. If you have a story to share, please reach out.
When I started designing the 49 Steet Emporium wall, I thought it would make sense to create a 50 foot mural, as sponsorship rolled in, it tuned into an almost 90 foot length mural. This image depicts our town at different points in time. The Train Station disappeared from our landscape in 1961, another one popped up further north on the tracks located across from where town hall is now. The grain elevators started disappearing in the late 1980’s and continued to come down until the last one disappeared in 2005. Both of these iconic pieces of history are special to our home but are also a legacy of history to our province and country.
This mural project would not have come to life without the gracious support of our community! Thank you to everyone for jumping in and helping out! Here are our current sponsors:

June 2026 – Creating Community Through Art
We are excited to invite you to become part of a unique community art initiative at 49th Street Emporium!
The 100 Friends Mural Project is an opportunity for community members, families, businesses, and supporters of the arts to help create a lasting public artwork while becoming part of its story.
For $100 per person (GST included), you financial contribution will help support:
- Mural design and creation
- Paint and art supplies
- Website development
- Project signage and recognition plaque
- Community engagement activities
Painting will take place throughout July 2026. Once the mural is complete, we will celebrate together with a community gathering and unveiling event planned for early August.
The mural will feature the historic Innisfail grain elevator row and train station as shown in the image below. This mural was inspired by the mural that once was featured on the bowling alley wall but with the addition of the grain elevator row that began to come down at the end of the 1980’s.
***There will be an additional bubble detail added (and more if we receive more stories like this). This first bubble will depict Bob Huntly driving his heavy horse team into UGG #1 as the last load that went to be delivered to the grain elevator row.***
QR CODES will be placed on the mural so viewers can read more about our local heritage.
During July when painting occurs, you will be welcome to come and enjoy watching the painting of the mural while the scene unfolds. This project is about building community, creating something beautiful together, and leaving a lasting legacy for Innisfail that we can all be proud of.
Spaces are limited to 100 participants. Join us and become one of the 100 Friends who helped bring this mural to life!
Cheques/payments can be made at 49 Street Emporium directly or Karen Scarlett can pick up your cheque/payment to deliver to the store – please make it out to 49 Street Emporium. Both Hal Moore and Karen Scarlett’s telephone #s are listed below if you have any questions.

The 100 Friends Mural Project is about more than paint on a wall – it’s about people coming together to create something bigger than themselves.
INSPIRATION

Our inspiration comes from the former train station mural that graced the bowling alley west wall for 2 decades – this mural adds more detail with the inclusion of grain elevators and trains.
This mural will be designed and painted by Karen Scarlett. The funds will cover materials/supplies, design, web development and production.
The Vision

**The 100 FRIENDS Mural would be similar in composition to this image but would reflect the correct colours of the grain elevators on the Innisfail Granary row and travelers would be milling around the train station on the boardwalk.**
This mural will celebrate the spirit of our town with westward views of our heritage, featuring:
- The iconic Innisfail grain elevator line
- The historic Innisfail train station
- A historical train, symbolizing connection, movement, and growth
- The mural will be bright, colourful, and full of life, transforming the location into a visual landmark.
- This mural will NOT depict one period of time. The train station will depict one time period and the grain elevators will depict another. Both significant. Both important and both worth celebrating.

Why Public Art Matters
Public art does more than beautify – it:
- Builds community pride
- Creates gathering space
- Connects generations through shared history
- Bonds the community
- Keeps communities safe
