Adult Watercolour Painting Techniques (Wednesday Afternoon)

This course is an introduction to watercolour painting. Learners will be guided in a supportive environment to develop watercolour skills and techniques. This is not a class where everyone is expected to copy an example, rather we will focus on exploring and creating their own interpretation in the medium in a guided journey.  Each day a small amount of “Fun Work”  will be assigned, to prepare them for the next day’s class.

Once registered, a link to the ZOOM class will be emailed to you and a supply list will be forwarded.

Registration in online classes includes access to an open drop in zoom session on Friday afternoons at 4pm, all students welcome. We will ask questions, show and tell or share any big news.

Introduction to Watercolour Painting

Subject: Learn to Paint Watercolour, Each class includes a demo and ideas to think about while painting and each student is will receive feedback on self-directed artpieces.

Included: theory,  colour mixing, watercolour washes, tools and tricks.

Level: Beginner – Advanced, Adults (This class is set to take the place of “Brushstrokes” seniors class but all adults are welcome)

Time Frame: 6 week class.  

Date: Wednesday January 13 – February 17, 12:30 – 3:00pm (MST)

Goal

This course is an introduction to watercolour painting. We will review the basics and move through a variety of techniques as a student body. Learners will be guided in a supportive environment to develop watercolour skills and techniques. This is not a class where everyone is expected to copy an example, rather we will focus on exploring and creating their own interpretation in the medium in a guided journey.  Each week a small amount of “Fun Work”  will be assigned, to prepare them for the next weeks class.

Learning Objectives 

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the theory, and demonstrate the skills associated with watercolour painting as an art medium.
  2. Describe different brushes and tools used in watercolour painting.
  3. Describe when to use different size brushes and why.
  4. Demonstrate how to mix colours to develop a full prism of colours (colour theory).
  5. Name a local artist, write a review of their work, and explain why they chose to review the work of this particular artist. 
  6. Demonstrate watercolour skills through production of various watercolour images.
